George II card table & two chairs

A pair of George II armchairs c 1750 probably supplied to William, 2nd Earl of Bessborough (1793) for Ingess Abbey, Kent.

Sold again at Christie's New York in 1987.

Made to the Chinese taste, the height of popularity at this period. the chairs are finely carved with pierced splat back with pagoda crests repeated in the arms.

The seat frame has blind fretwork decoration, cluster column legs and open c-scroll brackets.

A George II card-table c 1755,

Highly carved table with blind fretwork on the front and sides, deeply carved scroll feet and two gate legs with wooden hinges.
