The original table is attributed to jean-François Oeben. Made from various woods, the front and back is covered with parquetry and marquetry cubes and interlocking circles. Interlacing cross-banding framed by stringing of ebony and boxwood. The sides are similar but with just interlocking circles . The top has a kidney shaped panel with a bouquet of flowers in a basket, framed by three inter-lacing cross-banding, which form Greek key frets at the back corners and curve around the front to simulate a ledge for the basket of flowers. The top moves back and the draw moves forward to double the surface area. The draw has a hinged leather writing panel and a mirror on the under side. The side draws pull out, which contain silk lined cupboards. The cupboards move forward for easy access. It is French polished with cast bronze/gold plate ormolu mounts which include rams heads at each corner. There is only one, and it will not be repeated.
